Pakistan Mission to United Nations

"Excellency,

On behalf of the people and the Government of Pakistan and on my own behalf, I wish to convey our sincere condolences on the passing away of Mr. Aleksander Vorkapic, a UNHCR official, and Ms. Perseveranda So, a UNICEF official, in a despicable act of terrorism at the Pearl Continental Hotel, Peshawar, on 9 June 2009.

We whole heartedly condemn this act of terrorism in which the two international civil servants have sacrificed their lives while serving the noble cause of assisting the dislocated persons in Pakistan. They will be remembered for their meritorious services for the people of Pakistan.

Such cowardly acts of terrorism will never weaken our resolve to fight against this scourge. We will continue to work with international community and the United Nations to root out this menace from Pakistan and the region.
