The meeting of the OIC Contact Group on the Aggression of the Republic of Armenia against the Republic of Azerbaijan was held on 24th September 2018 at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, led Pakistan’s delegation to the meeting which was also attended by Foreign Ministers and senior officials from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Gambia, Djibouti, Morocco and Saudi Arabia.
In his statement, the Foreign Minister reiterated Pakistan’s support to the principled position of Azerbaijan on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue that the region along with its seven adjacent districts was under the illegal occupation of Armenian forces since 1994.
He said that unresolved conflict poses serious threat to regional peace and security. He urged upon the international community to take note of the deliberate and repeated provocations by Armenia which escalate the situation.
The Foreign Minister said that Pakistan’s position on the issue remains unchanged and based on the principles established by the UN Security Council resolutions.
